The Loaded Baked Potato

The baked potato is a surprise winner of this year's costume lists, and a potato and a pat of butter is a brilliant couples costume. One of you is a lumpy brown cardboard potato split open, the other wears the butter, the cheese and the chives. About $15 for two and under two hours.

What you need

• Brown cardboard for the potato
• Yellow card for the butter
• Yellow and orange tissue paper for the cheese
• Green paper strips for chives
• A split line of white and yellow paper for the potato's open middle
• Rope for shoulder straps
• Brown face paint or a brown beanie

How to make it

   Cut a fat oval from brown cardboard and crumple it a little, then flatten it again so the surface looks like a potato skin.

   Cut a slit down the middle, fold the edges outwards and glue white paper behind it so it looks split open.

   Fix rope shoulder straps to the back of the potato.

   Cut a thick square of yellow card for a pat of butter and glue it to a headband for your partner.

   Add tissue-paper cheese and green paper chives hanging from the pat of butter and round the shoulders.

   Stand together and argue about who is the main course.

Make it better

• Add a cardboard fork stuck in the top of the potato.
• Hold a cardboard plate to finish it.
• If there are three of you, the third can be beans.
