Pyramid Head from Silent Hill
A DIY Pyramid Head costume needs a tall pyramid helmet made from cardboard, an off-white apron over dark clothes, white gloves and an oversized prop knife cut from card. It is a patient make at about $24 and two hours, but it is mostly flat card and tape. Keep this fancy dress clearly homemade and family-friendly.

What you need
- Two or three large cardboard boxes, flattened
- Grey paint or grey and brown poster paint, plus a sponge
- Masking tape and strong glue
- A white or off-white apron or old pillowcase, plus dark trousers and a dark top
- White gloves
- A sheet of thin card and silver paint for the prop knife
- Red marker for a few marks on the apron (optional)
- Black mesh or a thin black cloth for the view slot
How to make it
- 1
Measure round your head and add 8 cm of room. Cut four tall triangles from card, each as wide at the bottom as a quarter of that measure and about 50 cm tall.
- 2
Tape the triangles together edge to edge to form a pyramid, with the open end at the bottom, and add extra strips of tape on the inside.
- 3
Cut a small slot near the bottom of the front face at eye level, and tape the black mesh over the inside so you can see out but nobody sees in.
- 4
Paint the helmet grey with a sponge for a rough texture, then dab brown paint along the edges for a worn look. Leave it to dry for an hour.
- 5
Glue a small card dome to the back of the helmet, as a simple nod to the shape described in the research.
- 6
Put on dark trousers and top, tie the apron over the front and add the white gloves. Dab a few red marker marks on the apron if you like.
- 7
Cut a long blade shape about 90 cm from thin card, paint it silver, and add a handle of wrapped tape. Round every corner so it is safe to carry.
Make it better
- Make the helmet light. Thin card and tape is better than thick box board that will tire your neck.
- Have a friend walk beside you at first. The view slot is small, and stairs are easy to miss.
- The prop knife is card only. Keep it floppy and rounded, and carry it low.
Questions
How do I make a Pyramid Head helmet from cardboard?
Cut four triangles, tape them into a pyramid with the bottom open, and add a small eye slot with mesh over it. Paint it grey with a sponge.
Is this an official Pyramid Head costume?
No. It is a homemade, unofficial costume inspired by a character from Silent Hill. It uses no official merchandise or artwork.
Can I see out of the helmet?
Yes, through a small slot near the front with mesh over it. Test it in daylight and have a friend nearby.
Is it suitable for kids?
Only with a lighter helmet, no red marks and a very soft prop. Many people will find the character spooky, so check the audience first.
Unofficial. Pyramid Head and the Silent Hill names belong to their respective owners, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by them. The names are used only to describe this homemade parody costume.
Wear it in front of your own haunted CCTV
Upload four photos of your house and Cursed Cam turns them into a night-time security monitor where something is very wrong. Put it on the TV by the door.
