Glinda from Wicked
A DIY Glinda costume is built around one colour: petal pink. Start with any pink dress, add layers of tulle underneath for volume, finish with a glittery card wand and a bubble-blonde hairdo, and you have the good witch from Wicked. It costs about $20, takes 45 minutes and needs no sewing.

What you need
- A pink dress, ideally knee length or longer
- Two to three metres of pink or white tulle
- A pink or white petticoat, or a plain underskirt
- A cheap tiara or headband
- Card, a stick or chopstick, and silver or gold glitter pen for a wand
- Light pink blusher and lip colour
- Safety pins
How to make it
- 1
Put on the pink dress and the underskirt beneath it for body.
- 2
Cut the tulle into long strips about 30 cm wide. Gather each one along one edge with a loose running pin and tuck it under the dress waistband.
- 3
Layer two or three strips at different lengths so the skirt looks full and soft.
- 4
Curl your hair or use heated rollers, then pin it half up so the curls fall around your shoulders.
- 5
Cut a star from card, cover it in glitter pen and tape it to the stick to make a wand.
- 6
Add the tiara and a soft pink blusher and lip colour. Keep everything bright and sweet.
- 7
Carry the wand and lead with a big, bright smile.
Make it better
- Tulle goes everywhere. Pin it inside the dress and carry spare safety pins.
- If you only have a pale dress, wear it with a pink cardigan or sash to bring in the colour.
- A clear bag held as a bubble works in photos, but leave it at home if you are dancing.
Questions
How do I make a Glinda costume from clothes I already own?
Wear a pink dress, add tulle layers for volume, and finish with curls and a wand. If you have no pink dress, a pink top and a tulle skirt does the same job.
How do I make a wand that does not look cheap?
Wrap a stick in a strip of foil or ribbon and glue on a card star with a glitter pen outline. Keep it simple and sturdy.
Is this an official Glinda costume?
No. It is a homemade, unofficial costume inspired by Glinda from Wicked. Nothing here is official merchandise.
Is it good for UK fancy dress?
Yes. Everything is easy to find in UK shops, and it pairs well with an Elphaba costume if you want a duo.
Unofficial. Glinda and the Wicked names belong to their respective owners, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by them. The names are used only to describe this homemade parody costume.
Wear it in front of your own haunted CCTV
Upload four photos of your house and Cursed Cam turns them into a night-time security monitor where something is very wrong. Put it on the TV by the door.
